Following Green Project's acquisition of Optera, we sat down with Tim Weiss, Optera's former CEO and Green Project's new Chief Revenue Officer, to talk about how the deal came together and what it means for customers going forward.

Q: How did Optera and the Green Project team approach discussions about the acquisition? What was the goal of combining forces?

A: I've known the Green Project team, including Sam Stark, for a number of years, and I've known ACT for quite a while, too. The relationship started as a partnership: Optera had been leveraging the Green Project platform for renewable energy transactions for our customers, and that collaboration built real respect for the tool and its capabilities.

As Optera began thinking about the broader strategic landscape, conversations with Green Project started to unfold in a natural way. We had built an enterprise-grade carbon accounting and reporting solution with deep Scope 3 expertise and were able to hold our own on the global market. Green Project, through ACT's resources and the acquisition of Emitwise, had built a renewable energy marketplace and a world-class supplier engagement platform.

This complemented our offering incredibly well and allowed us to create an end-to-end solution. Joining ACT and Green Project meant taking the team and product we'd built and cultivated for years to a global market, and I think that's incredibly powerful.

Q: The acquisition was announced on July 13th, 2026. How has it been going since then?

A: Since the announcement, we have been off to the races as a combined organization, and it's felt like an organic fit across teams. We're already driving a lot of excitement and adoption and cross-selling opportunities across our products. Our go-to-market teams are fully integrated and working well together, our products are actively coming together in a unified and cohesive manner, and we've got customers flowing between both platforms now, which is exciting.

When you combine companies, there's a lot to sort out in terms of responsibilities, understanding how we operate, and defining culture and the rules of the road. But what we have here is a group of talented, dedicated people who are serious about advancing the transition to the low carbon economy. One month in, I don't think you could hope for anything better.

Q: What's your view on how Optera's capabilities fit into Green Project's platform? Where do you see the clearest synergy?

A: Optera has focused on the fundamentals of sustainability: core accounting and reporting, deep expertise on Scope 3 accounting, and tracking progress toward goals. It's about having our hands around true data foundations and an auditable system of record.

Green Project has focused on decarbonization, building a truly world-class set of solutions, from renewable energy adoption, to the addition of Emitwise's supplier engagement product, to emerging functionality around decarbonization planning and long-term strategy across the multiple tiers of your supply chain.

It all fits together in a clean way, letting us deliver an end-to-end product where we can come in at any stage of a company's journey and solve specific problems, or be the full product that brings everything together for a program holistically.

Q: For customers who are watching this expansion closely, what would you want them to know about how this changes what Green Project can do for them?

A: To be completely candid, this is a moment in our industry that is very hard for most organizations. Sustainability budgets are getting tighter, the regulatory landscape is raising scrutiny on data and audit-readiness, and 2030 milestones are just a couple years away.

Green Project's platform, with the combination of Optera and what we've been building, is designed to meet this next chapter. We aim to provide solutions that are applicable on day one, so any company can make progress however quickly they're able to move. It's rare, and it signifies a powerful product, to be able to cater to an entire maturity spectrum.

People should expect us to keep innovating in the direction of end-to-end: having all the data you need at your fingertips, whether that's your own internal product carbon footprints, your full Scope 1, 2, and 3 inventory, deeper analysis across different business units and product lines, or tier-end analysis across the many stages of your value chain.

Essentially, we're focused on bringing clean, scalable solutions to the market that help folks make confident progress in a way that’s approachable.

Q: As Chief Revenue Officer, what’s on your mind now, about a month after the acquisition was announced?

A: I love building high-performing teams and driving world-class execution toward goals. We might have a grand vision, hopes and dreams we're marching toward, and what I love is getting a whole organization behind that and making it happen.

There are so many exciting, momentum-building, growth-driving opportunities at Green Project: the scale of ACT's customers and sales and marketing organization, the nimbleness and speed of the Green Project side, and the consultative sales model and enterprise sales motion we built at Optera.

What's important at this stage is making all of these things work in harmony so they can have their maximum impact, and that's not a simple feat, but it's what I do best. The role of Chief Revenue Officer at Green Project is about harnessing the full potential of this entire organization, and ACT as well, and helping all of us work in one direction to build a category-leading digital business.

Q: What do you foresee as the next chapter in Green Project's growth and evolution?

A: This next chapter is an exciting one because we're building off a lot of solid foundations that have already been laid, and we're taking them to a scale we haven't been able to contemplate or realize before.

We have the opportunity to bring forward the best offering in our industry and to support companies across the entire economy, suppliers across every region of the world, and brands and companies across every region, at any stage of their journey, from regulatory compliance to true decarbonization.

We have all the opportunities available to us to make a difference during a critical moment for humanity, with regard to how we address climate change. I'm not going to say that a SaaS company is going to change the arc of global carbon emissions, but we certainly will help organizations act in a more credible and rapid manner. The potential is high, and we want to realize it.
